Walter 'Snowy' Farr MBE

Snowy Farr

circa 1974
Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, UK

I am hoping someone on flickr can name this chap. He used to turn up at Cambridge Market with a barrow load of animals and collect money for charities. He and his pets used to draw a huge crowd of smiling faces.

Thanks to Simon for the answer I was after.

names for animals

it's strange volunteering at an animal refuge how different people bond with different animals - and also how those animals bond with the volunteers. i noticed that there were definite favourites that existed between the two: the vet had a dog called swiss, a dutch volunteer a dog called pecky, another dutch volunteer a capuchin called luna, a canadian volunteer a parakeet called mr bean and me, well i had martin. for some reason i never got that close to the spider monkeys. there were about 10 of them in total, but i never managed to learn their names or really distinguish one from the others. i'm not sure why that was - as they were still really cool creatures - but there wasn't really a strong connection. what did impress me was they way that they moved, their tails were literally like a fifth limb and they were experts at judging the strength of each branch and leaping from one to another. this one was in a playful mood and bounced up and down above my head posing for the camera.

This is Waldo, an American giant millipede I had a while back. He was wild-caught and had some infections. He also had internal parasites, which were evident when maggots came out of his corpse.

Cinnamon in Slow Cooker

Previously I mentioned that our youngest cat Cinnamon has developed a few quirks. She is around nine months old now and along with the instinctive need to sit in any kind of box or container, she has taken to lying in unusual places as well including our dish rack.

And she also found our slow cooker just recently.

Cool Extinct Animals images

A few nice extinct animals images I found:

Ichthyosaur fossil, Royal Ontario Museum
extinct animals
Ichthyosaurs were sleek, dolphin-like creatures that lived in the dinosaur era. Like modern dolphins, they breathed air, but unlike dolphins, ichthyosaurs were reptiles. Ichthyosaurs are probably my favorite extinct animal.

This fossil was found in Dorset, England; in the ichthyosaurs' heyday, England was a warm, shallow sea, home to a large population, and its clay sea floor preserved and fossilized many ichthyosaurs.

Stone Mammoth and a small pigeon
