Scimitar-horned Oryx (Oryx dammah)
The scimitar or scimitar-horned oryx, (Oryx dammah) is a species of oryx which formerly inhabited the whole of North Africa. It is now extinct in the wild. Where once they occupied the whole Sahara Desert, they are now considered to be extinct in the wild, with no confirmed sightings in the wild for over 15 years. They are now only found and bred in zoos across the world.
Photographed at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, CA
